Anders Grapthar is the third and youngest child of Lazerus Grapthar, one of the 39 Rock Lords of the Cygnus system. He was not expected to take over his father’s seat, so was trained from a young age as a leader, and a spacer.
According to the traditions of the Grapthar family, as soon as he was 16 he applied to the Republic Naval Accadamy on Couroscant. There he once again excelled in his many classes and graduated at the top of his class. No mean feat considering his senior year was a cadet cruise as part of the republic fleet in the clone wars.
The top 5 percent of his class were given commissions of Lt. as recognition of their ability, and were assigned to the choicest assignments in the Navy… But Grapthar may have attended the Republic Naval Academy, but he graduated into the Imperial Navy. Tradition was tradition, and he was assigned to the Star Destroyer of a rising star in the Navy: Captain Wilhuff Tarkin.
Lieutenant j.g. Grapthar beamed with pride over being assigned as commander of a hyperdrive capable shuttle, it meant a chance for independent action, a chance for distinction, and a probability of promotion. It also meant that his shuttle was assigned to take Captain Tarkin down to the surface of Ghorman, a world that was vocally protesting the new Imperial rule. Upon decent, Anders found the landing pad full of protesters, began rerouting the landing, and informed the passengers.
When Tarkin heard this he was furious, but never showed it. “It will not be necessary to reroute, You may complete the landing as planned, commence landing operations” Tarkin said, his voice icicles.
“I cannot sir, There are too many civilians, someone might be injured.”
“I am aware of that, I am not a man who repeats himself. You have your orders.”
“Sir, we are already in contact with traffic control, it will only be a few minutes delay.”
“Lieutenant, you are relieved. Sergent, detain the mutineer.”
Thus began the rest of Grapthar’s 5 year tour of duty, and of the prisons of the Empire. Every 6 to 8 months, Anders Grapthar was moved to a new low security prison. His lawyers advised not to make trouble, as soon as the case got to court martial, the circumstances were such that he would be exonerated. But the court martial never came. At the end of Grapthar’s mandatory term of service to the fleet, his dishonorable discharge was processed, and he was free to leave.
However he had no home to go back to. His family had sided against the imperial forces when Cygnus was taken, and he could find no trace of them, living or dead. Grapthar Station was a lifeless shell, and even his allies in the Moot had no power.
Grapthar melted into the underworld, where a technician with a knowledge of fighting ships is always welcome, and where he could plot his revenge.
